The Kit-Aircraft Builder Assistance Program

What is it?

The A3I kit-aircraft builder assistance program is an FAA approved and copy-written program designed to provide commercial labor to kit-aircraft builders and simultaneously meet the requirements of part 21.191 sub-paragraph (g) of the FARs.

How does it work?

A3I works with the kit-supplier and the kit-purchaser/builder to provide the necessary tools, tooling and labor as well as educational services to complete a particular aircraft. A3I is a labor facilitator and the kit-purchaser/builder is the contracting party whose name will appear on the aircraft registration certificate. The kit-purchaser/ builder must complete all required aspects of the approved program and each function is signed off by A3I personnel as well as an FAA Designated Representative (DR) when applicable.

The services provided include the assembly function, education, training, testing, and fly-off time. No aircraft is permitted to leave A3I facilities without FAA approved documentation and hull insurance. It must be flown by a pilot who is approved to fly the particular type and kind of aircraft which was assembled. In essence, the aircraft must be completed and airworthy with all required documentation completed, and insurance in place.

What does A3I provide?

The Kit-Aircraft Builder Assistance program is a complete program which provides the necessary services to complete your project in the minimum amount of time and with the highest degree of safety. The program provides for financing the purchase of your kit and financing the assembly labor to provide you a flying aircraft which has been test flown and registered in your name.

How do I qualify for the program?

A3I works with preselected kit-aircraft suppliers (kit-fabricators) and finance specialists. Provided you wish to purchase one of the aircraft kits which are a part of this program you can contact A3I or the kit-fabricator and make your financial commitment to the program by providing a down payment and completing the application documentation. Upon approval of credit, your deposit and application are accepted and your kit is fabricated. Upon completion of your kit and those of others in the program, the kit(s) are forwarded to A3I facilities and the process of education, recreation and assembly begins using the FAA approved program. You, the builder, will be required to work at A3I facilities and perform multiple tasks in order to qualify as the registered builder of the kit-aircraft. When the aircraft is completed it will be test flown by A3I personnel until the required fly-off time has been achieved. You, the builder, will be trained to fly the aircraft by an FAA approved CFI in A3I’s aircraft of the same type and kind. Upon completion of your training you or an approved representative can fly your aircraft home.
